When I think of Russia, I think of snow, big fur hats, vodka, corruption, and people named Dmitry. I definitely do not think of anything as vibrant and colorful as the St. Basil Cathedral in Moscow. Also known as The Cathedral of the Protection of Most Holy Theotokos on the Moat, the cathedral is a Russian Orthodox church on the Red Square in Moscow erected by Ivan the Great in the mid-1500's. However, the church acquired its vivid colors throughout the 1600-1800's. I really appreciate the fact that a guy referred to as "the terrible" commissioned the creation of one of "the great" architectural statements in the world.
